While U.S. Pastor threatens to burn Korans, U.S. Military burns Bibles

What with all the uproar about the Florida preacher who threatened to publicly burn the Koran (Qu’ran), it turns out that the U.S. military in Afghanistan burned confiscated Bibles that were printed in the two main Afghan languages, Pashto and Dari. This was amid concern they would be used to try to convert Afghans, a Defense Department spokesman said Tuesday.

The unsolicited Bibles sent by a church in the United States were confiscated about a year ago at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan because military rules forbid troops of any religion from proselytizing while deployed there. (So torture is permissable at Bagram but not Bibles.)

Such religious outreach can endanger American troops and civilians in the devoutly Muslim nation, Lt. Col. Mark Wright said.

“The decision was made that it was a ‘force protection’ measure to throw them away, because, if they did get out, it could be perceived by Afghans that the U.S. government or the U.S. military was trying to convert Muslims,” Wright told CNN.

  1. When Men try to make war with God`s Word they will fail, but make Peace and God`s Word will Prevail. By the Prince of Peace whom Loves Us all, He gave His Life and took no ones. That Day waits for His Devine Judgemwnt. Amen.

  2. Ever wonder why the media picked up on an obscure church pastor who threatened to burn Korans, but there was hardly a mention of orthodox Jews who actually burned New Testaments in Israel?!

In May 2008, in central Israel, hundreds of New Testament books were put in a pile near a synagogue and a group of Orthodox Jews burnt all of them.

[As reported in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz]

  3. It wasn’t disrespectful at all.You can’t compare Burning of Quran event and Bibles burnt by US soldiers because of their rules.
