UN report condemns Israel for Gaza flotilla killings

A UN report, compiled by three United Nations appointed human rights experts, determines that Israeli forces violated international law when they raided a Gaza-bound aid flotilla, killing nine activists, earlier this year.

The Mavi Marmara, aboard which Israel's deadly raid on a Gaza-bound flotilla resulted in the deaths of 9 Turkish activists

The UN Human Rights Council’s fact-finding mission concluded that Israel’s naval blockade of the Palestinian territory was unlawful because of the humanitarian crisis there, and described the military raid on the flotilla as brutal and disproportionate. Shot and killed were eight Turkish activists and one Turkish-American aboard the Mavi Marmara on May 31.

The Human Rights Council’s report was compiled by former U.N. war crimes prosecutor Desmond de Silva, Trinidadian judge Karl T. Hudson-Phillips and Malaysian women’s rights advocate Mary Shanthi Dairiam.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu praised the UN Human Right Council’s report on the Gaza flotilla, telling Anatolia news agency that the report was fair, impartial and used strong evidence. Said Davutoglu. “We hope that Israel will learn to use language of international law and act in line with it.”

The Israeli Foreign Ministry responded late Wednesday by saying the Human Rights Council had a biased, politicized and extremist approach.

  1. Does this mean that the U.N. also condemns the terrorists on board one of the flotilla`s that was about to enter the lnad of Israel that Israel was looking for? Or do terrorists have more rights than Israeli`s? The way out of this is to quit criticising Israel and hold terrorists accountable for their acts of terrorism unless Sharia Law now rules the U.N. If so we understand the hipocracy comming out of the caliphate regimes and we know why law of the sea was sold as well as the civil rights of Honorable Americans have been violated and the Nation is in an Uproar. • I assume that you don’t follow the news that closely, or at least aren’t familiar with the Mavi Marmara incident? As otherwise I’d have to somehow rationalize that you are classifying well-meaning humanitarian activists as terrorists, amongst them Americans, British, Irish, Australians, Swedish, Germans, etc who are concerned about helping the poor with food and medicines??!

One thing is certain: Far from deterring people from seeking to bring the siege to an end, the Israeli assault on the Freedom Flotilla is spurring on even more people to bring humanitarian aid to the besieged 1.5 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and to end the blockade.

A registered charity founded by a British MP has organized three massive land convoys to Gaza, is as we speak transporting overland 500 vehicles loaded with vital humanitarian aid for the people of Gaza.

  2. The latest news is that a humanitarian aid shipment sponsored by Jewish organizations around the world set sail Sunday from Cyprus to Gaza, despite a blockade to the occupied territory.

The boat was carrying 10 passengers and crew, including Jews from the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Israel.

“The boat will attempt to reach the coast of Gaza and unload its aid cargo in a nonviolent, symbolic act of solidarity and protest — and call for the siege to be lifted to enable free passage of goods and people to and from the Gaza Strip,” organizers said in a statement.

“Israeli government policies are not supported by all Jews,” said Richard Kuper of Jews for Justice for Palestinians, one of the organizers. “We call on all governments and people around the world to speak and act against the occupation and the siege.”

    • Update: Today, the Israeli navy took over this aid vessel. Thankfully, no one was injured when the navy boarded the boat and the navy was taking the boat to a port in Ashdod, the IDF spokesman said.

One of the organizers of the boat. Richard Kuper of “Jews for Justice for Palestinians”, condemned the Israeli action, saying it showed Israel has “no real intentions of reaching peace.”

Last Wednesday, the United Nations’ Human Rights Council concluded that Israeli forces committed serious violations of international law in the mid-sea interception of another aid flotilla in which 8 activists were killed. The 56-page report described the circumstances of the deaths of “at least six of the passengers” as being “consistent with … an arbitrary and summary execution.”

  3. To understand the true situation in Israel, you must read the Old Testament and also know something about the true nature of the UNSPOKEN core beliefs of their religion. In actuality, the REALL
Y bad stuff is not put down in print you know, because if it was, it would make them guilty of crimes against humanity! As Jesus Himself said (a modern translation of Matthew 15:2″And why do you, by your traditions, violate the direct commandments of God?” (make the laws of God of no effect). We all know of the Torah, the 10 commandments, the historic, beautiful and inspirational books and poetry and prophetic books of the Bible-but the TALMUD…this is where things get out of line very quickly!
Because by the traditions handed down through thousands of years of teaching by their religious and political leaders….they have come to the belief basically that they alone ARE the people of GOD and everone else are like unclean dogs. They can do anything they want to do to the goyim…kill them, take whatever they want from them, steal from them, enslave them, etc. etc. all with no guilty feelings .
In their history of the conquering of the “Promised Land” they were commanded by GOD to kill EVERYTHING! Men, women, children, and even the animals! Now, I have reasoned myself that “OK..perhaps people THEN were much like cavemen, living in filth, maybe some canibalism, stealing from and killing each other- so maybe God did have to cleanse the land of THAT day.So the Children of Israel were to go in and virtually rid the land of all false religions and seize the “Promised Land” from its ancient inhabitants -all sanctioned by God.
To make a long story short a Jewish Messiah named Jesus and His Jewish follower really threw a monkey wrench into their plans, cause HE CHANGED EVERYTHING! He made it possible for ALL people to be the CHILDREN OF GOD, and taught his followers to live in love and win all people to God through deeds of charity and kindness…NOT by the sword!(if only they would follow it today!) The coming of Christ actually was God`s cancellation of the Old Testament contract with God and the installation of a whole new plan for God`s children with NEW rules and a whole new modus operandi.
So for those rejectors of their own Messiah, they have no modern day connection with God and instead work by the arm of the flesh and their own “smartness” to MAKE it work. They still want a powerful Israel with the borders of the days of King David and Solomon, and will kill, steal, rob….do ANYTHING to get their plan accomplished. THIS IS SCARY!

  4. […] mission of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) on the Israeli attack on the Gaza flotilla shows conclusively that US citizen Furkan Dogan and five Turkish citizens were murdered […]

  5. What speaks volumes to me is that the other five vessels in the flotilla were boarded using the same procedures by the same body of troops. No violence was directed at the Israeli troops and none was forthcoming in response, and no casualties ensued.

What also speaks volumes to me is the thunderous silence of the international community during the many years of Palestinian missile attacks upon Jewish civilians from the Gaza territory ceded by Israel as ‘land for peace’. Israel didn’t get peace, they got a hell on earth with some 10,000 missiles being fired from their former territory, each intended to kill or maim a Jewish civilian. Thousands of Jewish kids have been traumatised, having 15 seconds to run for their lives, and now both live and attend school in bomb shelters.

The international community’s thunderous silence was broken only when Israel eventually responded to these attacks and not before. It was the unprovoked indiscriminate attacks upon Jewish civilians that gave rise to the blockade and nothing else. Conspicuous by it’s absence in the comments of those condemning the blockade is any reference to the continuing actions of those who made it a necessity.

The mindset behind those who would defend the actions of the IHH activists does not bare close scrutiny. Any honest individual will soon uncover the visceral disdain for anything Israeli and the outright denial of any right of self defence to the Jews and their military.

Israel ceded Gaza to the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas. The rest is history, with the populace electing a terrorist entity sworn to eradicate the Jewish state and replace it with an Islamic state of Palestine. Now the Palestinians was a ‘Judenrein’ – Jew free – state in Judea and Samaria, what the world calls the West Bank. Even the ‘moderate’ Fatah of whom Mahmoud Abbas is the Chairman, have a charter with an identical agenda to that of Hamas. Yet the world demands that the Israelis cede this territory as well. The world clearly hasn’t learned from the history of Gaza… or perhaps it has and just wants the same platform against the Jewish state with a view to the same goals.

    • Ah, a defender of Israel, somewhat of a dying breed I might add, with all of Israel’s shennagins of late!

I expect you may indeed get some feedback on your statements such as the cause being “unprovoked indiscriminate attacks upon Jewish civilians” and the “10,000 missiles being fired from their former territory, each intended to kill or maim a Jewish civilian. Thousands of Jewish kids traumatised” and other “Palestinian missile attacks upon Jewish civilians from the Gaza territory”.

To each his own opinion, as this afterall is a forum for free speech.

    • btw, what is your take on the determination by the UN fact-finding mission that a US citizen and five Turkish citizens on the Mavi Marmara were murdered execution-style by Israeli commandos that fateful May 31st? The fact-finding panel concluded that these killings “can be characterized as extra-legal, arbitrary and summary executions.” (Report Page 38, Section 170)

  6. Jim Howard is correct that the pre-Israelite nations were driven out because of their wickedness – and not in relation to any ethnic issue – but his understanding wanes when it comes to the New Testament and the teachings of Jesus Christ. Jesus – as God in the flesh – is no less forgiving of such wickedness and His comments need to be seen and taken in the context within which they were spoken and not taken to prove an expedient point. Jim sadly also seems unaware of the prophetic teachings surrounding the Jewish and Christian Messiah.

“It is not because of your righteousness or the uprightness of your heart that you go in to possess their land, but because of the wickedness of these nations that the Lord your God drives them out from before you, and that He may fulfill the word which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob…” (Deuteronomoy 9; 5).

    The Lord God of Israel, having already declared the Land to be His, further elaborates His feelings towards it;

“..a land for which the Lord your God cares; the eyes of the Lord your God are ALWAYS on it, from the beginning of the year to the very end of the year. ” (Deuteronomy 11; 12).

    The wickedness of the nations in the land is clarified even further;

“When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire, or one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For ALL who do these things are an abomination to the Lord, and because of these abominations the Lord your God drives them out from before you….For these nations which you will dispossess listened to soothsayers and diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has NOT appointed such for you.”

There were also consequences for the disobedience of the children of Israel which resulted in their dispersal and exile among the nations. This being only temporary until they were re-gathered as a nation in 1948 in unbelief, before their ultimate spiritual restoration in the end times surrounding the return of Jesus Christ Himself.

At that time prophecy cites a gathering of the nations against the Jews and Jerusalem.

“For I will gather ALL NATIONS TO BATTLE AGAINST JERUSALEM….Then the Lord will go forth and FIGHT AGAINST THOSE NATIONS, as He fights in the day of battle…”, (Zechariah 14; 3-5).

“In those days and at that time, when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem, I WILL GATHER ALL NATIONS AND BRING THEM DOWN TO THE VALLEY OF JEHOSHAPHAT. There I will enter into JUDGEMENT AGAINST THEM CONCERNING MY PEOPLE ISRAEL, for they have scattered My people among the nations and DIVIDED UP MY LAND..” (Joel 3; 1-2).

“Thus says the Lord who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundations of the earth and forms the spirit of man within him, “BEHOLD I WILL MAKE JERUSALEM A CUP OF TREMBLING TO ALL THE NATIONS, WHEN THEY LAY SIEGE AGAINST JUDAH AND JERUSALEM…And it shall happen in that day that I WILL MAKE JERUSALEM A BURDENSOME STONE FOR ALL PEOPLES; all who would heave it away will SURELY BE CUT IN PIECES, though ALL NATIONS OF THE EARTH AE GATHERED AGAINST IT..” (Zechariah 12; 9-10).

“For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is none like Me. Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times things that are not yet done..” (Isaiah 46; 9-10).

“The Lord brings the counsel of the nations to nothing; He makes the plans of the peoples of no effect” …….”The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples, But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His Heart through all generations..” (Psalm 33; 10-11; NKJV & NIV)….to be continued.

The Rev. David Pawson has written that of 737 separate prophecies made in Scripture, with some mentioned only once but others being mentioned up to many hundreds of times, 594 (over 80%) of these have already been accurately fulfilled. The remaining prophecies are shown to be taking shape at the time of writing. Many of these relate to Jerusalem, Israel and the return of Jesus Christ.

    • Thank you for sharing your interpretation of the Bible surrounding the Jewish and Christian Messiah.

While I share your faith in Christ, I do find that dispensationalism is leading far too many American Christians to support Israel in a way devoid of all perspective.

In particular, many American evangelicals have lost any sense of justice with respect to the Arab people. The Arabs living in the vicinity of Israel have suffered mightily in Israel’s wars in Lebanon and under the Jewish settlers in the West Bank.

Christians believe that we are supposed to love all of mankind. But too many evangelicals frequently have total indifference and contempt for the rights and interests of Arabs, including the many Arab Christians of the Middle East.

This contempt for Arabs takes a form that these same (otherwise sane) people would never adopt towards any other innocent civilians caught up in a war zone.
