Taking out one Taliban costs America $50 Million

The Pentagon will not tell the public what it costs to locate, target and kill a single Taliban soldier because the price-tag is so scandalously high.

With an estimated 2,000 Taliban being killed each year *, and the Pentagon spending $200 billion per year on the Afghan war, a rough calculation indicates that $100 million is being spent to kill each Taliban soldier!

To be conservative though, let’s double the number of Taliban being killed each year by U.S. and NATO forces, although this being true is unlikely. In any case, this would reduce the cost to eliminate one Taliban to $50 million.

Using this conservative estimate of $50 million needed to kill each Taliban, and with the U.S. military estimating there to be 35,000 ** hard-core Taliban (and assuming that no reinforcements and replacements will arrive from Pakistan), killing the existing Taliban will cost the U.S. $1,750,000,000,000.

Footnotes:

* The U.S. military calculation or Taliban casualties runs higher, largely because it labels everyone it kills a “Taliban militant,” regardless of if they are drug traders, war lords or civilians defending their homes.

** The figure of 35,000 is based on an interview given by General Stanley McChrystal earlier this year.

  1. 50 Million Dollars worth of munitions would take out a lot of these Evil People and shorten the war considerably. All we have to do is shorten the War and reinvest the saved Money into a Democracy and keep the peace. The Math isn`t that hardnto do and would save more lives in the long run because the Pakistan and Afghan Public would soon part from the BattleField.

    • You so miss the point!!

In this futile war America is involved in in Afghanistan, U.S. tax payers could expect to pay $1,750,000,000,000 to theoretically kill every existing person who is Taliban. A sane person does not expect this to happen.

So there is no rational application whatsoever of your statement “50 Million Dollars worth of munitions would take out a lot of these Evil People and shorten the war considerably”. —For a “mere” $50 million, the war budget could probably not even cover the requisition slips to buy the munitions.
